Jamie Winternitz
Jamie is the Principal Investigator of the research lab. She is currently a Senior Researcher at the University of Hamburg in Evolutionary Immunogenomics, Institute for Animal Cell and Systems Biology. Her interests include genetics of disease resistance in natural populations, sexual selection and parasite-mediated natural selection, and the interaction between animal behavior, life history traits and immunity. She is committed to increasing diversity of researchers in science and to the integration and advancement of women in science. CV
Kirana Bell
Kirana is a Bachelor’s student in Evolutionary Immunogenomics, Institute for Animal Cell and Systems Biology, University of Hamburg. She is using molecular tools to identify the location of the hybrid zone between the Western house mouse (Mus musculus domesticus) and the Eastern house mouse (M. m. musculus) in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
Lab Alumni
Marie Becker
Marie was a Bachelor’s lab rotation student in Evolutionary Immunogenomics, Institute for Animal Cell and Systems Biology, University of Hamburg. Marie worked on characterizing the organization and footprints of selection of Anatolian blind mole-rat (Nannospalax xanthodon) MHC genes.
Nadine Schubert
Nadine was a doctoral student at the Department of Animal Behaviour, Bielefeld University, jointly supervised by Prof. Barbara Caspers. Nadine worked on unraveling the genetic basis of social communication in banded mongooses, focusing on MHC genes. For her Master's, she investigated movement behavior of European hedgehogs in relation to the amount of artificial light at night.
